The Image
Two figures on a curved road beside railway tracks, pale yellow sky above, another couple on the far side of the lake. The tracks set the rhythm of the composition, they pull the eye all the way to the back of the frame.
Background pulled from photographs of the Portuguese coast, desaturated into pale yellow and slate. The figures drop in as pure black silhouettes so the eye does not linger on them. The other couple across the water moves on at their own pace, a quieter echo. The landscape is the subject, the figures are the reason to look at it.
Second panel of estrada fora. About the pause in the middle of a trip, when the destination stops mattering and the road and the person next to you become the whole point.

A compressed travel palette. Pale yellow carries the light, slate the distance, black the figures, cream the paper underneath them all.
